Lovely
customer Nils bought this beautiful trunk from us, for his girlfriend’s
birthday. Not only was she thrilled, but Monty has taken a liking to it, too!

WINDOW DISPLAYS
Our shop window is definitely the best sales area we have. But we are continually surprised about how well it works. Following the industrial heart display, we stuck a couple of tub chairs in - sold straight away. We then thought…OK…need something that might stay there a little longer. How about five volumes of a mid-Georgian history of England? Yes…these books were so large and heavy they would have to be delivered by our van. Not so, thanks to an impulsive book restorer, his wife and two donkeys (I mean grown up daughters). A heavy concrete cat also left the window very quickly, followed by a couple of vintage teddies (not literally). So, anyway, this is all quite frustrating when you're trying to do a blog about what’s in the window...so this is what’s in the window now! It may not be for much longer!

SHOPPING WITH PETS!
Matt was
in the shop and, during a very busy hour, a lady walked into the shop and asked
if she could leave her shopping trolley near the counter. No problem.
She then
asks if it’s OK to look round with her pet. Matt looks up, notices a lead and
assumes it’s a dog. No problem.
‘Tis only
as said customer starts to go up the stairs and rises above the crowd that Matt
notices that on the end of the lead is…a raccoon!
Matt
thinks that perhaps given some of the taxidermy upstairs (pine martin, fox etc.)
this may not be a good idea.
Very
quickly the customer comes back down stairs clutching racoon to breast.
Racoon
looks 'agitated'
"Oh
dear" says woman "I think he didn't like the stuffed things"
She
gathers shopping trolley and exits, briefly freaking out a customer who turned
to enter the shop at the exact same time the racoon exited.
Ho
hum..another day in homestuffwithhistory.
Matt
attempted to take a picture but sadly only managed to get the raccoon’s rear
end (and tail). Unfortunately this looked like Davy Crockets hat and was not
convincing! So here’s a pic of an angry stoat, instead!

PROPER VINTAGE LAMPS!
Look at our lovely vintage lamps, in the shop now! They’ve
had a complete rewire and gentle resto and they're good to go. These are converted
